In the Bible (Ephesians 2 v 19) those who are part of the church are called "members of God's household". The church is also described as "the body of Christ", consisting of many "members" - hands, ears and little toes! (See especially 1 Corinthians 6)
The Church of England has always been glad to think of itself as the church for everyone, and fuzzy at the edges, but we do have a membership list in every parish which forms the basis of our democratic system of church government, from Parochial Church Meetings and the PCC at parish level to the General Synod nationally. It is called the Church Electoral Roll.
The Church Electoral Roll also acts informally as a mailing list for important communications.
If you would like to have your name added to the Electoral Roll of your parish church, click here and you can download an application form. Please print it out, fill it in and hand it to your churchwarden when you are next in church.
• The Electoral Roll is your parish’s record of those qualified to attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting and to vote in elections to the parochial church council (PCC) and the deanery synod.
• Any person entitled to attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting may also raise any question of parochial or general church interest.
• If you enrol on the Church Electoral Roll you become a voting member of the Church of England and so help to ensure that the PCC, the Kington & Weobley Deanery Synod, the Hereford Diocesan Synod and the General Synod are fully representative of the Church’s members.
